THE ART OF PLAYING FUNK MUSIC

A Masterclass in THE ONE– Featuring Starchildjr & Members of Parliament-Funkadelic

You can learn the notes, but can you find THE ONE?

Step inside the heartbeat of funk with Starchildjr (Garrett Shider), son of legendary Parliament-Funkadelic guitarist Garry Shider, and members of the iconic Parliament-Funkadelic collective for an electrifying, interactive workshop exploring the foundation of funk music: THE ONE!

Made famous by George Clinton and the legendary P-Funk movement, The One is more than just the first beat of a measure. It’s the foundation of the groove, the heartbeat of the band, and the musical connection that transforms individual musicians into one unstoppable funk machine.

Having spent over 15 years touring and recording alongside his godfather George Clinton, Starchildjr brings firsthand knowledge, generational wisdom, and authentic P-Funk experience to this one-of-a-kind musical experience.

Through live demonstrations, hands-on instruction, rhythmic exercises, storytelling, and spontaneous jam sessions, participants will explore the musical principles that helped define the sound of Parliament-Funkadelic.

What You’ll Experience

Finding THE ONE: Discover the rhythmic foundation of funk and how to lock into the groove.

The Art of the Pocket: Learn how bass, drums, guitar, keyboards, and vocals work together to create an irresistible rhythmic foundation.

Playing Together as ONE: Develop listening skills, musical communication, and the discipline of making the entire band groove as a unit.

The P-Funk Approach: Explore syncopation, rhythmic accents, repetition, improvisation, and the musical freedom that defines the Parliament-Funkadelic sound.

Learning From the Legends: Hear firsthand stories and musical insights from artists who have helped carry the P-Funk tradition across generations.

The Ultimate Funk Jam: Put everything into practice in a live, collaborative jam session with Starchildjr and all-star members of Parliament-Funkadelic.

More Than a Workshop- It’s a Funk Experience!

Designed for musicians of all skill levels, music students, educators, and anyone passionate about rhythm, this workshop goes beyond traditional music instruction. It’s an opportunity to experience funk from the musicians who live it, breathe it, and have helped keep its legacy alive.

Participants won’t just learn how to play funk. They’ll discover how to feel it, communicate it, and become part of it.

Because in funk, it doesn’t matter how many notes you play. What matters is where you put them, how you feel them, and whether everybody lands together on THE ONE!

ONE NATION UNDER A GROOVE. ONE BAND. ONE FEELING. THE ONE!

Come get your funk education straight from the source!
