Essential Cinema: Children of Men (20th Anniversary)

In 2027, two decades of global infertility have left humanity facing extinction. Britain has become a police state, and a disillusioned bureaucrat named Theo (Clive Owen) is drawn into a desperate mission to protect the first pregnant woman in eighteen years.

Stellar Cast-

The film features career-defining performances from Clive Owen, Julianne Moore, Michael Caine, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Clare-Hope Ashitey.

Groundbreaking Cinematography-

Cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki’s legendary long takes place you directly inside the chaos. The film is renowned for its unbroken tracking shots, including a harrowing refugee camp sequence and an unforgettable car ambush, creating a documentary-like immediacy rarely achieved in cinema.

A Film Ahead of Its Time-

Roger Ebert gave it a perfect score, and 20 years later, its themes of nationalism, xenophobia, and societal collapse feel more prescient than ever.
